Amazon Pharmacy adds same-day delivery for Ozempic pill
Amazon Pharmacy (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced it will offer same-day delivery and kiosk pickup for Novo Nordisk's oral Ozempic medication, which treats type 2 diabetes. The service addresses access needs for more than 36 million Americans with type 2 diabetes.
The oral GLP-1 medication will be available through same-day delivery in nearly 3,000 cities and towns, expanding to 4,500 locations by year end. Amazon Pharmacy will also provide pickup through kiosks at select One Medical locations following medical appointments.
Pricing starts at $25 per month with insurance coverage. Cash-paying customers pay $149 per month after manufacturer-sponsored savings are applied automatically. The service includes real-time medication availability tracking and transparent pricing displays.
Amazon Pharmacy offers next-day, two-day and three-day delivery options in areas where traditional mail-order services typically require five to 10 days. All customers receive free delivery regardless of Prime membership status.
"Amazon Pharmacy continues to provide customers expanded selection and reliable, convenient access to the latest treatments like the Ozempic pill for type 2 diabetes," said Tanvi Patel, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Pharmacy.
The company has delivered GLP-1 medications since 2021 and reports saving customers more than $200 million through automatic coupon programs. GLP-1 medications represent the largest savings category for the service.
Customers can request their healthcare providers send prescriptions directly to Amazon Pharmacy. The service accepts most insurance plans and provides 24/7 access to licensed pharmacists.
