May 7, 2026 6:45 AM

Spire Global Inc. (NYSE: SPIR) announced the establishment of a satellite manufacturing facility in Munich, Germany, according to a company press release. The facility will produce small satellites to support Germany's space-based intelligence capabilities.

The Munich site will initially develop satellites for the EURIALO project, an in-orbit demonstration supported by the European Space Agency's Space Systems for Safety & Security programme. The project aims to advance aircraft geolocation capabilities independent of traditional navigation systems by using multiple satellites to detect radio frequency emissions from aircraft.

The facility features an ISO-certified clean room and integrated infrastructure with capacity to produce up to 100 satellites annually. The site will handle end-to-end satellite manufacturing, including integration, testing, and mission-specific payload development.

"The opening of our Munich facility marks an important step in strengthening sovereign space capabilities in Germany," said Theresa Condor, CEO of Spire Global. "By combining satellite manufacturing with Spire's proven RF geolocation capabilities, we are enabling a new class of responsive space-based intelligence systems that can be integrated into national and European security frameworks."

The facility is designed to support rapidly deployable satellite missions aligned with national security requirements. Spire indicated the site could address capabilities relevant to the Bundeswehr, including space reconnaissance and radio frequency geolocation and monitoring.

Spire operates a constellation of satellites that provides weather intelligence, ship and plane tracking, and spoofing detection services. The company has offices in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, and Germany.
