Bionano names board chairman Al Luderer as interim CEO
Bionano Genomics Inc. (NASDAQ: BNGO) announced that Al Luderer has been appointed interim president and chief executive officer, effective May 5. Luderer, who holds a Ph.D. and previously served as chairman of Bionano's board of directors, will continue in his chairman role while director Chris Twomey assumes the position of lead independent director.
Luderer succeeds Erik Holmlin, who will remain with the company as an advisor. Bionano stated it anticipates the transition will occur without business disruption.
Luderer has served on Bionano's board since November 2011 and became chairman in June 2024. He brings three decades of biotechnology experience, with previous roles including CEO of Indi Molecular, president and CEO of BioTrove, CEO of Light Sciences, and president and COO of bioMérieux Inc.
"I am honored to step into this role and deeply committed to Bionano's mission and the long-term opportunity we are pursuing," Luderer said in a statement. "Having worked closely with this team as Chairman, I have a clear view of both the strengths of this organization and the work ahead."
Twomey noted Luderer's combination of industry expertise and knowledge of Bionano, stating the board has confidence in his ability to provide leadership during the search for a permanent CEO.
Bionano provides genome analysis solutions through optical genome mapping technology, diagnostic services and software for researchers and clinicians. The San Diego-based company also offers diagnostic testing services through its Bionano Laboratories business.
