argenx SE (Euronext & Nasdaq: ARGX) announced that its board of directors has appointed Karen Massey as chief executive officer and Tim Van Hauwermeiren as chairperson of the board of directors.

Massey joined argenx in March 2023 as chief operating officer and will succeed Van Hauwermeiren, who co-founded the immunology company and served as CEO since 2008. Her appointment as CEO follows shareholder approval of her appointment as executive director of the board.

The leadership changes were announced alongside results from the company's annual general meeting, where 90.9% of the company's share capital was represented. All agenda items received the required majority votes for approval.

Van Hauwermeiren was appointed as chairperson immediately after being appointed as a non-executive director to the board at the general meeting. "Karen has earned the full confidence of the Board of Directors and our shareholders," Van Hauwermeiren said in a statement.

The annual general meeting also approved several other board appointments. Ana Céspedes and Camilla Sylvest were reappointed as non-executive directors for four-year terms, while Pam Klein was reappointed as a non-executive director for a two-year term.

Shareholders additionally approved the company's 2025 remuneration report, annual report and accounts for the financial year ending December 31, 2025, and the allocation of 2025 profits to retained earnings. The meeting also authorized the issuance of shares and rights to subscribe for shares up to 10% of outstanding share capital for an 18-month period.

The Amsterdam-based company develops antibody-based medicines for autoimmune diseases and has commercialized what it describes as the first approved neonatal Fc receptor blocker.
