Illinois American Water appoints John Killips as senior director of engineering

Illinois American Water has appointed John Killips as Senior Director of Engineering, effective May 4. The appointment strengthens the company's leadership team as it continues infrastructure investments across Illinois.

In his new role, Killips will oversee the strategic direction of capital improvements, including infrastructure repairs and replacements. He will report to Illinois American Water President Rebecca Losli and will be based in the company's Belleville office.

Killips brings over 30 years of industry experience to the position. He previously served as Water Collection and Distribution Service Line Lead at GHD Inc., supporting the linear water market in North America. Before that, he held multiple roles at Tetra Tech, Inc.

"John is a proven leader with deep engineering knowledge and a strong commitment to customers," said Rebecca Losli, President of Illinois American Water. "His experience and leadership will help ensure we continue delivering safe, clean and reliable water service across Illinois."

Illinois American Water invested more than $280 million in infrastructure work in 2025, including installing new pipes, pumps, hydrants, valves, lift stations, water treatment facilities, storage tanks, water quality systems and technology.

American Water is the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States, serving more than 14 million people across 14 states and 18 military installations.
