Investing.com -- US President Donald Trump plans to address China's ongoing energy purchases from Iran during his meeting with President Xi Jinping next week, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Wednesday.

Greer told Bloomberg TV that while the administration hopes the issue will not disrupt broader relations or potential agreements from the Beijing meeting, it remains a topic of concern that may be discussed.

The Trump administration has criticized Beijing for providing financial support to Iran through energy purchases. Washington has warned banks they face potential secondary sanctions if they support Chinese refiners purchasing Iranian oil.

The US has intensified efforts to halt Iranian oil shipments, which represent a crucial source of revenue for Tehran.

Greer described Iran as the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, stating that any entity purchasing oil from Iran contributes to that designation.
