CPKC and CSX enhance Mexico express service with faster transit times
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (TSX: CP) (NYSE: CP) and CSX Corporation (NASDAQ: CSX) announced upgrades to their Southeast Mexico Express service, reducing transit times and expanding route options for freight customers.
The enhanced service launched May 4, connecting southeastern U.S. markets including Atlanta, Charlotte and central Florida with Texas and Mexico destinations such as Dallas and Monterrey. Transit time improvements range from approximately one day faster between Atlanta and Dallas to 2.5 days faster between Atlanta and central Mexico.
The upgraded service now provides two-day service between Atlanta and Dallas, three-day service from Monterrey to Atlanta, and four-day service from central Mexico to Atlanta. New origin and destination points include Charlotte, Jacksonville and Central Florida.
"These service upgrades, providing approximately 20 to 45 percent improvement to SMX transit times, reflect our ongoing commitment to providing more best-in-class, flexible transportation solutions," said Keith Creel, CPKC President and CEO.
Steve Angel, president and CEO of CSX, stated the upgrades "demonstrate the long-term investments CSX has made to strengthen this corridor and provide more consistent, reliable service for our customers."
The improvements result from capital investments in track, bridges and signal infrastructure on the former Meridian & Bigbee Railroad and continued investments across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
CSX and CPKC introduced the Southeast Mexico Express in December 2024 following their respective acquisitions of portions of the former Meridian & Bigbee Railroad, establishing a direct interchange near Myrtlewood, Alabama.
Schneider National, Inc. (NYSE: SNDR), an intermodal service provider, has utilized the service and expressed support for the enhancements, citing improved reliability and truck-competitive transit times.
