InflaRx advances izicopan development for kidney diseases
InflaRx N.V. (NASDAQ: IFRX) announced it will develop izicopan, an oral C5a receptor inhibitor, for ANCA-associated vasculitis and other kidney diseases. The biopharmaceutical company is conducting Phase 2 planning for the drug in AAV, a kidney disorder.
The company plans to establish proof of concept for izicopan across additional complement-mediated kidney diseases through open-label studies expected to begin generating data next year. Target indications include atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, IgA nephropathy and C3 glomerulopathy.
InflaRx estimates it has sufficient funds for planned clinical development activities and operations through 2029. The company will continue seeking potential collaborators to advance izicopan development across all geographies.
"We have elected to pursue development in ANCA-associated vasculitis following our thorough evaluation of the high unmet need in this life-threatening disease and izicopan's promise as a significantly differentiated inhibitor of C5aR," said Prof. Niels C. Riedemann, CEO and founder.
The company plans a Capital Markets Day for summer 2026 to detail izicopan's potential in AAV and broader renal disorders. InflaRx will conduct a pharmacokinetic bridging study in China this year.
Regarding hidradenitis suppurativa, InflaRx concluded interactions with the FDA regarding an optimized clinical development program for izicopan. The company believes a viable path forward exists but envisions further development only with a partner.
Izicopan is an oral small molecule inhibitor that has shown anti-inflammatory effects in preclinical models and human studies. The drug demonstrated favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics and no safety signals of concern in Phase 1 and Phase 2a studies.
