NVIDIA and Corning form partnership to expand US optical manufacturing

May 6, 2026 7:30 AM

NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) announced a multiyear commercial and technology partnership to expand U.S.-based manufacturing of optical connectivity solutions for AI infrastructure.

Corning will increase its U.S.-based optical connectivity manufacturing capacity by 10 times and expand its U.S. fiber production capacity by more than 50%. The company plans to construct three new manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas, creating more than 3,000 jobs.

The expanded capacity will supply optical connectivity components for hyperscale data centers that deploy NVIDIA-accelerated computing systems. Modern AI workloads require thousands of NVIDIA GPUs, which need high-performance optical fiber and connectivity to transfer data.

"AI is driving the largest infrastructure buildout of our time – and a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reinvigorate American manufacturing and supply chains," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

Wendell P. Weeks, chairman, CEO, and president of Corning, said the partnership demonstrates that "AI is not just a technology story. It is a manufacturing story, and it is happening here in the United States."

The partnership addresses increasing demand for optical connectivity as AI data centers expand in size and number. Corning, which invented low-loss optical fiber, will use its manufacturing capabilities to support the infrastructure requirements of AI computing systems.

The information is based on a joint press release from both companies.
