John B. Sanfilippo recalls snack mix products over salmonella risk
John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc. (NASDAQ: JBSS) announced a voluntary recall of certain snack mix products due to potential salmonella contamination from recalled dry milk powder used in seasoning.
The recall follows California Dairies Inc.'s voluntary recall of dry milk powder. The affected seasoning tested negative for salmonella prior to use, but the company is taking precautionary action. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled items.
The recalled products include Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix, Southern Style Nuts Gourmet Hunter Mix and Hunter Mix, Squirrel Brand Travelers Mix and Town & Country Mix, and Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix. The products were distributed in retail stores and through e-commerce and QVC.
Specific product details include various package sizes ranging from 7.5 ounces to 36 ounces, with best-by dates extending through August 2027. The products carry UPC codes and item numbers listed in the company's recall notice.
Consumers should not consume the affected products and can return them to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement. The company stated that no other manufactured items are affected by this recall.
Salmonella can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
