May 5, 2026 8:05 AM

AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) presented 18 abstracts on inflammatory bowel diseases at the 2026 Digestive Disease Week Annual Meeting held May 2-5 in Chicago. The data focused on real-world evidence and long-term findings for the company's drugs SKYRIZI and RINVOQ in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis treatments.

The presentation included 52-week follow-up data from the ASPIRE-CD study showing adults with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease treated with risankizumab experienced sustained improvements in abdominal pain, bowel urgency and liquid stools. Corticosteroid use decreased from 34% at baseline to 7% by week 52, while over-the-counter therapy use dropped from 72% to 49%.

A real-world study analyzing U.S. claims data found the switch rate for risankizumab was 14% over 24 months among Crohn's disease patients, compared with 21% for ustekinumab, 30% for vedolizumab, 33% for infliximab, and 36% for adalimumab.

Additional data showed patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis who switched to upadacitinib had 31% lower odds of hospitalization and 26% lower odds of emergency department visits compared to those who increased their biologic therapy dose.

AbbVie submitted an application to the FDA on April 27, 2026, seeking approval of SKYRIZI for subcutaneous induction treatment in adult patients with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease.
