Sanofi expands AI center in Toronto with $294 million investment
Sanofi (NASDAQ: SNY) announced a $294 million expansion of its Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence in Toronto, creating 50 new positions in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The pharmaceutical company established the AI center in downtown Toronto in 2022 and has created more than 150 roles over four years. The new positions will focus on designing and deploying AI tools for Sanofi's global research, manufacturing and business operations.
Ontario's Invest Ontario Fund will provide a conditional grant of up to $5 million to support the expansion. The investment extends new global AI mandates and leadership roles to Ontario operations.
"With local biopharma expertise and a world-class AI talent pool in Toronto, we are developing made-in-Canada solutions that are being scaled to operations across the globe," said Dimitrije Jankovic, Sanofi's Global Head of Digital Strategy and Operations.
The expansion represents Sanofi's continued investment in its Toronto operations, where the company develops AI-powered solutions for medicine and vaccine development. The new roles will support the acceleration of breakthrough medicine and vaccine delivery to patients worldwide.
Sanofi describes itself as Canada's largest biopharma manufacturer and operates research and development facilities focused on AI-powered healthcare innovation. The Toronto center serves as part of the company's global network supporting drug discovery and manufacturing processes.
