THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 opens with $233 million globally at theaters
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 generated $233 million in worldwide box office revenue during its opening weekend, with $77 million coming from domestic theaters including Thursday preview shows, according to AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AMC).
The sequel becomes the fifth film in 2026 to open with at least $60 million domestically and marks the fourth movie to exceed $75 million in domestic opening weekend gross within seven weeks. The film joins MICHAEL, THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, PROJECT HAIL MARY, and SCREAM 7 as major theatrical releases this year.
More than 4.4 million moviegoers attended AMC Theatres and ODEON Cinemas locations from April 30 through May 3, the company stated in a press release. The opening weekend figures include Friday through Sunday attendance along with Thursday preview screenings.
AMC reported that limited-edition handbag popcorn buckets themed after the film sold out immediately on Thursday. The theater chain now offers pre-orders for the collectible items through its online shop, with delivery expected later this summer.
"What we are seeing in 2026 is unmistakable. When studios bring compelling, well-marketed films to the big screen, audiences respond in a big way," said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron.
The opening weekend coincided with the traditional start of the summer moviegoing season, which typically begins the first weekend in May. AMC operates approximately 855 theaters with 9,640 screens globally, making it the largest movie exhibition company in the United States and worldwide.
Upcoming releases at AMC theaters include MORTAL KOMBAT II on May 8, a re-release of TOP GUN: MAVERICK on May 13, and STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU on May 22.
