Investing.com -- The United Arab Emirates accused Iran on Monday of attacking an empty crude oil tanker belonging to Abu Dhabi state oil firm ADNOC with drones as the vessel attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

ADNOC's maritime energy logistics unit said the Barakah was struck by two drones while empty, with no injuries reported.

The UAE foreign ministry called on Iran to stop these attacks, ensure an immediate end to all hostilities, and allow the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has blocked most non-Iranian ships from entering and exiting the Gulf since the U.S. and Israel began attacking it on February 18. Tehran has threatened to target unauthorized vessels transiting the Strait, which handles around a fifth of global oil and gas shipments.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said a tanker reported being hit by unknown projectiles about 78 nautical miles north of UAE's Fujairah.
