Novo Nordisk rebrands diabetes tablet as Ozempic in US

May 1, 2026 8:34 AM

Investing.com -- Novo Nordisk A/S will rebrand an existing diabetes tablet as Ozempic in the United States starting Monday, the Danish drugmaker said Friday.

The company will sell Ozempic pills in doses of 1.5 milligram, 4 mg and 9 mg to adults through more than 70,000 pharmacies across the country.

Novo Nordisk said the relaunched Ozempic pills are as safe and effective as tablets sold under the name Rybelsus, which contain the same main ingredient, semaglutide, but in a different formulation and set of doses. Rybelsus will continue to be sold outside the US.

The move comes as Novo Nordisk works to regain market share from Eli Lilly & Co. The company is focusing on new formulations of its medicines and a more direct-to-consumer approach.

A Wegovy pill introduced in January recorded the strongest launch of any obesity drug to date. Novo Nordisk also introduced a subscription program offering lower monthly prices for the drug.
