Unum Group appoints Steve Jones as Colonial Life president

April 30, 2026 2:23 PM

Unum Group (NYSE: UNM) has named Steve Jones as president of Colonial Life, effective June 8. Jones will succeed Tim Arnold, who plans to retire in July after 41 years with the company, including 11 years leading Colonial Life.

Jones joined Colonial Life in 2023 as senior vice president of field and market development. He brings more than 20 years of insurance industry experience, with previous roles including president of Cigna Supplemental Benefits and chief operating and chief financial officer within Aetna's senior supplemental insurance business.

In his new role, Jones will oversee Colonial Life's business performance and long-term strategy, reporting to Rick McKenney, president and chief executive officer at Unum Group.

"Colonial Life is a critical part of Unum Group's growth strategy, and Steve is well prepared to lead the business forward," McKenney said in a statement.

Arnold's tenure at Colonial Life included leading the voluntary benefits business and managing organizational changes. Colonial Life, a subsidiary of Unum Group, provides workplace benefits including disability, life, accident, dental, and critical illness insurance to approximately 95,000 businesses and 4 million workers.

Jones holds a bachelor's degree from Hampden-Sydney College and an MBA from Wake Forest University School of Business. He serves on the boards of United Way of the Midlands, City Year Columbia, and the Council of Advisors for South Carolina Manufacturers & Commerce.
