AVITA Medical appoints Cary Vance as permanent CEO
AVITA Medical Inc. (NASDAQ: RCEL, ASX: AVH) announced that its board of directors has appointed Cary Vance as president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Vance had served as interim CEO since October 2025.
The board also appointed Jan Stern Reed as chair, effective immediately. Reed has served on the AVITA Medical board since 2021 and previously held the role of lead independent director since October 2025.
"Following a thorough search process conducted in coordination with a top-tier, international executive search firm, the Board unanimously concluded that Cary is the right leader to serve as CEO on a permanent basis," Reed said in a statement.
Vance has served on AVITA Medical's board of directors since 2023 and was previously appointed chairman in 2025. He brings 30 years of healthcare industry experience and has previously served as president and CEO of several companies including PhotoniCare Inc., Titan Medical Inc., and Hansen Medical. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles at Teleflex, Covidien, and GE HealthCare.
Reed brings over 35 years of legal and business management experience in the healthcare industry as both an executive leader and board member.
AVITA Medical develops therapeutic acute wound care products. Its primary product, RECELL, is approved by the FDA for treating thermal burn and trauma wounds. The company also markets Cohealyx, a collagen-based dermal matrix, and PermeaDerm, a biosynthetic wound matrix in the United States.
The company is scheduled to report first quarter 2026 earnings results on May 14, 2026, according to the press release.
