Hertz launches Oro Mobility with Uber as first partner for robotaxi fleets
Hertz Global Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: HTZ) announced the launch of its affiliate Oro Mobility, with Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) as its first major partner for autonomous robotaxi and driver-led fleet operations.
The partnership includes two components. Oro Mobility will support Uber's autonomous robotaxi program using Lucid vehicles equipped with Nuro AV technology, providing vehicle asset management including charging, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and depot staffing. These services are expected to launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year, with potential expansion in 2027.
The second component involves driver-led fleet management, where Oro operates high-quality vehicles with Oro-employed drivers on the Uber platform. Following a pilot in Atlanta last year, Oro is now active in Los Angeles and San Francisco, with Northern New Jersey expected to launch this spring.
"Hertz has spent over a century mastering complex fleet operations at scale, and Oro is how we put that expertise to work in the next era of mobility," said Gil West, CEO at Hertz.
"Partnering with Hertz's Oro Mobility will help us continue to bring the best autonomous technology onto the Uber platform and accelerate the transition to a hybrid network," said Andrew Macdonald, President and COO of Uber.
Oro Mobility is designed to provide integrated fleet management solutions across mobility segments, leveraging Hertz's fleet and facility management capabilities. The announcement builds on Hertz and Uber's existing rideshare rental partnership, representing an expansion of their collaboration as Hertz diversifies beyond its core rental business.
The information is based on a press release statement from the companies.
