Novartis completes seventh US facility plan with North Carolina site

April 30, 2026 7:01 AM

Novartis announced plans for a new active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing facility in Morrisville, North Carolina, completing its commitment to add seven new US facilities within one year of its $23 billion US investment plan.

The 56,200-square-foot facility will produce APIs for solid dosage tablets, capsules and RNA therapeutics. This marks Novartis's fifth facility in North Carolina across three sites and aims to establish end-to-end US manufacturing capability from active ingredients through finished medicines.

"Last year we committed to adding seven new facilities in the US, and today we finalize our plans to expand our US manufacturing and R&D footprint in the US," said Vas Narasimhan, CEO of Novartis.

Since April 2025, Novartis has broken ground on facilities including a biomedical research center in San Diego in February 2026, manufacturing facilities in Denton, Texas and Winter Park, Florida for radioligand therapies, and a flagship manufacturing hub in North Carolina in December 2025. The company also opened a radioligand therapy facility in Carlsbad, California in November 2025.

The investments support Novartis's goal to manufacture all key medicines for US patients domestically. The company states this represents the first time in its history that it will have end-to-end manufacturing for all advanced technology platforms in the US, including small and large molecules, radioligand therapies, RNA therapeutics, and cell and gene therapies.

The infrastructure will support current medicines and future therapies across oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, according to the company's press release.
