Nuwellis highlights case study on pediatric heart failure treatment
Nuwellis Inc. (NASDAQ: NUWE) announced that researchers from the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital presented a case study on ultrafiltration therapy for pediatric heart failure at the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation annual meeting held April 22-25 in Toronto.
The poster presentation examined the use of ultrafiltration in a pediatric patient with chemotherapy-induced dilated cardiomyopathy and recurrent fluid overload. The study evaluated the therapy's feasibility, safety, and clinical impact when standard diuretics and medical management failed to prevent hospital readmissions.
The case study involved Nuwellis' Aquadex SmartFlow system, which is designed for controlled fluid removal in patients with fluid overload. According to the company, the treatment showed safe and effective fluid management while improving the patient's clinical status before surgery and outcomes after cardiac transplant.
"The case presented on the poster reinforces the growing body of evidence supporting precision ultrafiltration as an important tool in managing fluid overload in complex pediatric cardiorenal patients," said CEO John Erb.
The Aquadex ultrafiltration therapy is indicated for continuous treatment lasting up to 8 hours or extended use beyond 8 hours for hospitalized adult and pediatric patients weighing 20 kilograms or more. The treatment addresses fluid overload that does not respond to medical management including diuretics and must be administered by trained healthcare providers in clinical settings under physician prescription.
The information was based on a company press release statement.
