Zebra Technologies invests in Apera AI for robotic vision technology

April 29, 2026 8:10 AM

Zebra Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), announced a strategic investment in Apera AI, a provider of 4D Vision technology for industrial robots.

Apera AI's 4D Vision system provides robots with real-time visual intelligence to locate, identify, and manipulate complex parts in manufacturing environments. The technology uses stereo vision and AI models to function in dynamic factory conditions, adapting to shifting bins, changing lighting, and complex part geometry.

The system enables robots to handle challenging tasks such as picking clear, shiny, or overlapping parts using vision trained in virtual simulation environments. The technology targets unstructured, fast-paced production lines where flexibility and quick deployment are required.

"Our investment in Apera AI is a strategic step toward a more intelligent, responsive automation future," said Tony Palcheck, Vice President, Zebra Ventures. "We are committed to helping organizations reach new levels of performance through automated workflows."

Zebra acquired Photoneo, a 3D-based imaging company, in 2025 as part of its Connected Factory framework designed to improve visibility and quality in manufacturing operations.

The investment will help Apera AI support customers requiring fast, scalable deployments in complex manufacturing environments. The company states manufacturers can deploy Apera-powered systems with minimal engineering time.

"Zebra Ventures' support marks a major milestone for Apera AI," said Sina Afrooze, Co-Founder and CEO of Apera AI. "We look forward to helping manufacturers standardize on vision-guided robotics faster, scale throughput, and protect uptime across their plant floors."

The information is based on a press release statement from Zebra Technologies Corporation.
