Babcock & Wilcox secures $21 million in fuel switching awards

April 29, 2026 6:30 AM

Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Inc. (NYSE: BW) announced it secured more than $21 million in awards for fuel switching technologies in the United States, according to a company statement.

The awards reflect increased utilization of coal and natural gas power plants, which is also driving performance in the company's parts and services business. The projects include engineering and material supply for coal-to-gas conversion solutions.

"B&W continues to experience strong demand for its parts and services as coal power plants in the United States operate at peak capacity for extended periods to meet baseload generation demand," said Matthew Taylor, Senior Vice President of B&W Parts and Field Engineering Services.

The company completed a 100 MW utility boiler conversion from coal to natural gas in the fourth quarter of 2025, delivered ahead of schedule and within budget. B&W is currently executing an additional 1,200 MW of coal-to-gas conversion projects scheduled for completion this year.

The Akron, Ohio-based company has performed more than 150 boiler conversions, including projects switching from coal or oil to natural gas systems and adding multi-fuel capabilities. These conversions aim to reduce environmental impact while lowering fuel and operating costs.

The fuel switching projects support both industrial and utility clients with upgrades designed to provide fuel flexibility. B&W specializes in energy and environmental products and services for power and industrial markets worldwide.
