Box launches AI workflow automation platform

April 28, 2026 1:00 PM

Box Inc. (NYSE: BOX) announced the general availability of Box Automate, a workflow automation solution designed to integrate artificial intelligence across enterprise operations. The platform routes work between people, AI agents, and enterprise systems to automate content-based processes.

Box Automate operates natively within the Box platform and works with existing Box products including Box AI, Box Extract, Box Apps, Box Sign, Box Hubs, and Box DocGen. The solution uses a drag-and-drop interface that requires no coding knowledge to design and deploy automations.

"Today, industries are seeing the biggest AI ROI come from automation," said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box. "For enterprises, this means completing in minutes what once took days, with greater accuracy and zero compromise on security."

The platform triggers workflows based on document changes, metadata, and AI-derived insights rather than manual processes. It supports AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, with automatic improvements as these models advance.

Samsung's Head of GRC Evelyn Ngai said the company plans to use Box Automate for employee onboarding processes, including processing documents from Greenhouse and Workday systems and generating personalized documents for new employees.

Box Automate is available across different subscription tiers. Business and Business Plus accounts access file and folder automation features. Enterprise and Enterprise Plus tiers include metadata-powered workflows and complex logic capabilities. Enterprise Advanced accounts receive full agentic workflow automation features.

The announcement comes as Box positions itself in the intelligent content management market, competing with traditional workflow automation tools by focusing on content as a central element of business processes.
