MiniMed receives Health Canada license for diabetes system update
MiniMed Group Inc. (NASDAQ: MMED) announced that Health Canada has licensed new software for its MiniMed 780G diabetes management system. The updated system now supports both Guardian 4 and Simplera Sync sensors and has received approval for use in adults 18 years and older with Type 2 diabetes.
The Simplera Sync sensor is a disposable device that requires no fingersticks when used with the system's SmartGuard feature and features a two-step insertion process. The sensor will become available in Canada later this year, while the system currently operates with the Guardian 4 sensor.
The MiniMed 780G system includes an algorithm that adjusts glucose levels every five minutes and incorporates Meal Detection technology that automatically detects rising glucose levels and adjusts insulin delivery. The system allows glucose targets as low as 5.5 mmol/L and is compatible with a seven-day infusion set.
Clinical data shows the system helped participants achieve over 80% time in range when using optimal settings, which exceeds the international target of 70%. The system is also now compatible with Fiasp insulin.
"This license is a milestone for the diabetes community here in Canada," said Chet Patel, Senior Business Director at MiniMed.
MiniMed operates as a diabetes technology company serving customers in more than 80 countries. The company has developed insulin delivery systems, continuous glucose monitors, and related software applications for diabetes management.
