Nuwellis receives patent approval for dual lumen midline catheter technology

April 28, 2026 8:30 AM

Nuwellis Inc. (NASDAQ: NUWE) announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a Notice of Allowance for a patent covering its dual lumen midline catheter technology for ultrafiltration therapies.

The catheter incorporates separate withdrawal and infusion lumens with pressure-balancing features designed to maintain stable flow and reduce complications during fluid removal procedures. The device includes a segmented reinforcement structure that allows clinicians to customize catheter length at the bedside while maintaining kink resistance and flow performance.

"The allowed patent, 'Dual Lumen Catheter,' reflects Nuwellis' continued investment in innovation to improve fluid management solutions and expand the clinical utility of our Aquadex SmartFlow system," said David Lerner, the company's chief technology officer and named inventor on the patent application.

The Minneapolis-based medical technology company develops solutions for patients with cardiorenal conditions. The patented catheter technology is expected to complement Nuwellis' existing product portfolio and support expansion of ultrafiltration therapy access in hospital and outpatient settings once the patent issues.

The company focuses on monitoring, therapy, and data-informed clinical decision-making across acute and chronic care settings for complex cardiorenal conditions.
