Chipotle names Fernando Machado as chief brand officer, creates CDO role

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) announced the appointment of Fernando Machado as Chief Brand Officer, effective June 1. The company also created a new Chief Digital Officer position, naming Arlie Sisson to the role.

Machado previously served as Chief Marketing Officer at Restaurant Brands International for over seven years, overseeing marketing for Burger King, Popeyes and Tim Hortons. He also held executive roles at Unilever for 18 years and served as Chief Marketing Officer at Activision Blizzard. He currently works as an Operating Partner at Garnett Station Partners, a private equity firm.

"His proven track record in building iconic brands, driving category-defining innovation, and leading customer-centric marketing strategies positions him to elevate our brand, deepen guest loyalty, highlight the value of our real food, and accelerate our long-term growth," said Scott Boatwright, Chief Executive Officer.

Machado was named Ad Age's 2020 CMO of the Year and ranks among Forbes' top three most influential CMOs globally. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from Universidade Estadual de Campinas and an MBA from INSEAD Business School.

In the newly created Chief Digital Officer role, Sisson will report to Curt Garner, President, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer. She previously served as Senior Vice President, Global Head of Digital, Commercial Services at Hyatt Hotels and was founder and CEO of UpPurpose, a software-as-a-service company. She also held senior positions at Condé Nast and Marriott Hotels.

Chipotle operates over 4,000 restaurants as of December 31, 2025, across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Middle East.
