Polyrizon Ltd. (NASDAQ: PLRZ) filed a divisional patent application with the European Patent Office for its Trap & Target drug delivery platform technology. The Israel-based biotech company announced the filing on April 27.

The patent application covers Polyrizon's intranasal drug delivery system designed to increase medication residence time and contact with mucosal tissues. The technology aims to enhance bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients for both local and systemic drug delivery.

The Trap & Target platform features prolonged residence time at nasal absorption sites, controlled release mechanisms, and compatibility with various drug types including small molecules, proteins, peptides and antibodies. The system uses biodegradable polymers and is designed to prevent formulation dripping from the nasal cavity.

"The filing of this divisional patent application for our Trap & Target platform marks another important step in strengthening our global intellectual property portfolio," said Tomer Izraeli, CEO of Polyrizon.

The European application aligns with a previously announced U.S. patent application covering both the Trap & Target platform and Polyrizon's Capture and Contain technology. The Capture and Contain platform creates a physical barrier against airborne biological threats including allergens and viruses.

Polyrizon develops hydrogel-based nasal sprays that form protective barriers in the nasal cavity. The company's technology targets therapeutic applications including corticosteroids for allergic rhinitis, benzodiazepines for epileptic seizures, and naloxone for opioid overdose.
