Seaport Therapeutics adds former Intra-Cellular CEO to board
Seaport Therapeutics announced the appointment of Dr. Sharon Mates to its board of directors. Mates co-founded and led Intra-Cellular Therapies from June 2002 until Johnson & Johnson acquired the company in 2025 for approximately $14.6 billion.
During her tenure at Intra-Cellular Therapies, Mates oversaw the development of treatments for mental health disorders including bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. The company received FDA approval for its antipsychotic drug CAPLYTA, which generated more than $1.5 billion in sales before the acquisition.
"Sharon is an exceptional biotech entrepreneur and leader whom I have admired for years," said Daphne Zohar, founder and CEO of Seaport Therapeutics, according to the company's statement.
Mates currently serves on the boards of Medincell (Euronext: MEDCL) and Benitec (NASDAQ: BNTC). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Seaport Therapeutics is a clinical-stage company developing treatments for depression, anxiety, and other neuropsychiatric disorders using its proprietary Glyph platform technology. The company focuses on addressing limitations of existing treatments such as low bioavailability and side effects.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
