Nasdaq reports short interest data for mid-April settlement period

Nasdaq (NASDAQ: NDAQ) reported short interest positions for securities as of the April 15, 2026 settlement date. Short interest across all 5,332 Nasdaq securities totaled 20,498,266,178 shares, compared with 20,395,670,061 shares across 5,336 issues in the previous reporting period ending March 31, 2026.

For Nasdaq Global Market securities, short interest in 3,689 issues totaled 16,579,123,734 shares, up from 16,513,796,397 shares across 3,694 issues in the prior period. The mid-April short interest represented 2.71 days of average daily volume compared with 2.73 days previously.

Short interest in Nasdaq Capital Market securities totaled 3,919,142,444 shares across 1,643 securities, compared with 3,881,873,664 shares in 1,642 securities for the previous reporting period. This represented 1.16 days of average daily volume, down from 1.30 days in the prior period.

The overall short interest across all Nasdaq securities represented 2.16 days of average daily volume, compared with 2.26 days for the prior reporting period.

The reported short interest positions reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker-dealers regardless of exchange affiliations, according to the company's statement. A short sale generally refers to the sale of a security that the seller does not own or any sale completed by delivering a security borrowed by or for the seller's account.
