Terrestrial Energy submits safety analysis to nuclear regulators

April 23, 2026 8:02 AM

Terrestrial Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IMSR) submitted a foundational safety analysis to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the company announced. The submission represents a topical report defining safety events the company's Integral Molten Salt Reactor plant is designed to withstand.

The topical report constitutes a required step toward NRC issuance of a Safety Evaluation Report and future licensing applications for IMSR plant operations. The document allows for NRC review of safety-related topics and leads to regulatory rulings that can be referenced in future licensing applications.

"This is an important milestone for the company. It reflects the depth and rigor of our safety case and the continued progress of our engagement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission," said Simon Irish, CEO of Terrestrial Energy.

The submission follows multiple rounds of technical review with the NRC and represents the final stage of the topical report review process prior to issuance of a Safety Evaluation Report. The company stated this builds on prior regulatory milestones, including the NRC's issuance of a Safety Evaluation for the IMSR's Principal Design Criteria in September 2025.

Terrestrial Energy develops Generation IV small modular nuclear power plants using molten salt reactor technology. The company's IMSR plants are designed for distributed supply of industrial heat and electricity and are intended for applications including petrochemical synthesis and data center operations.

The information is based on a company press release.
