Coco Robotics launches autonomous delivery service in San Jose with Uber Eats
Coco Robotics announced the launch of its autonomous delivery service in San Jose, California, partnering with Uber Eats to provide robot-powered food delivery in the city's downtown area.
The company's sidewalk-navigating robots are now operational in San Jose's urban core, marking Coco's expansion into the Bay Area market. The service targets the downtown district, which serves as a commercial hub for Silicon Valley with hundreds of restaurants and thousands of daily workers.
"San Jose has always embraced technology, and welcoming Coco Robotics to our downtown reflects that spirit," said San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan. "What I'm most encouraged by is that autonomous deliveries in our city will help restaurants and merchants fulfill more orders efficiently and safely."
Coco operates what it describes as autonomous delivery robots in several U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Jersey City, and Miami. The company states it has completed over 500,000 deliveries and operates across the U.S. and Europe.
"San Jose is exactly the kind of city Coco was built for," said Zach Rash, Co-Founder and CEO of Coco Robotics. "It has hundreds of restaurants, a world-class food scene, and a downtown full of tech and finance professionals who want great food delivered quickly and reliably."
Aaron Emrich, Head of Autonomous Delivery at Uber Eats, said the launch represents another step in expanding delivery technology and growing the partnership with the San Jose community.
The robots operate on sidewalks and are designed for zero-emission deliveries in dense urban environments. Coco was founded in 2020 and was recently named to Fast Company's list of Most Innovative Companies in logistics.
