Robinhood Ventures Fund I invests $75 million in OpenAI
Robinhood Ventures Fund I (NYSE: RVI) purchased approximately $75 million of OpenAI common stock on April 17, according to a company statement. The investment represents one of the fund's largest positions to date.
RVI is a closed-end fund that began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on March 6 under the ticker symbol RVI. The fund provides exposure to a portfolio of private companies including Airwallex, Boom, Databricks, ElevenLabs, Mercor, OpenAI, Oura, Ramp, Revolut, and Stripe.
"OpenAI is one of the frontier artificial intelligence companies, and we are incredibly proud to add them to the Fund," said Sarah Pinto, President of Robinhood Ventures Fund I.
The fund operates without accreditation requirements or investment minimums and charges a management fee with no performance fees. RVI aims to provide retail investors access to private market investments that have traditionally been limited to institutional investors.
According to data cited in the announcement, the number of publicly traded companies in the United States declined from approximately 7,000 in 2000 to about 4,000 in 2025. The estimated value of private firms in the U.S. exceeded $10 trillion in the first quarter of 2025.
OpenAI describes itself as an AI research and deployment company focused on ensuring artificial general intelligence benefits humanity. Robinhood Ventures serves as the investment adviser for RVI and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Robinhood Markets, Inc.
