Accenture pilots humanoid robots in Vodafone warehouse operations

April 22, 2026 5:14 AM

Accenture (NYSE: ACN), Vodafone Procure & Connect and SAP completed a pilot program using humanoid robots in warehouse operations at Vodafone's facility in Duisburg, Germany.

The humanoid robots operated alongside existing warehouse systems, receiving inspection tasks through SAP's Extended Warehouse Management system. The robots performed autonomous visual inspections throughout the facility, identifying operational inefficiencies, safety risks and optimization opportunities.

During the pilot, the robots detected misplaced or damaged products, assessed pallet stacking and weight distribution, identified unused storage space, and flagged potential hazards such as obstacles in aisles or misaligned pallets. The robots reported findings directly into the SAP system for real-time visibility and operational decision-making.

SAP handled integration of the robots into the warehouse management system, while Accenture designed and deployed the robot intelligence and operational framework. The robots used Accenture's Robot Brain solution and were trained in digital twin environments built on the company's Physical AI Orchestrator platform.

"Trained in digital twins and powered by physical AI, humanoid robots can reduce worker injuries and other warehouse safety incidents and lower overtime costs and the dependency on temporary labor," said Christian Souche, Advanced Robotics lead at Accenture.

The robots interacted with human operators through voice, gestures and text. The technology incorporated NVIDIA Omniverse libraries and NVIDIA Metropolis libraries for visual AI deployment.

The companies presented the pilot project results at Hannover Messe 2026. The program explored how humanoid robotics could improve warehouse efficiency, safety and operational visibility while providing insights for potential scaling across supply chain operations.
