Aspen Aerogels facility remains offline after April explosion

Aspen Aerogels Inc. (NYSE: ASPN) reported that its East Providence, Rhode Island manufacturing facility remains offline following an explosion on April 8, 2026.

The explosion damaged a portion of the facility's production space and required temporary cessation of operations. Preliminary reports indicate the explosion originated in a specific high-temperature oven. Eleven employees were transported to local medical facilities for evaluation and subsequently released.

The company continues working with relevant authorities to execute a plan to resume operations. An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.

Aspen has initiated claims with its insurance carriers for business interruption and property damage coverage. The company expects to provide additional updates regarding potential impacts on its business, operations and financial performance in connection with its first quarter fiscal 2026 earnings release in early May.

The Northborough, Massachusetts-based company manufactures aerogel products for thermal management applications in electric vehicles and energy infrastructure markets.
