Apple promotes Johny Srouji to chief hardware officer
Apple announced that Johny Srouji has been promoted to chief hardware officer, effective immediately. Srouji previously served as senior vice president of Hardware Technologies.
In his expanded role, Srouji will lead Hardware Engineering, which John Ternus previously oversaw, as well as the hardware technologies organization. The announcement comes as Ternus prepares to assume the role of Apple CEO.
"Johny is one of the most talented people I have ever had the privilege to work with," said Apple CEO Tim Cook. "He has played a singular role in driving Apple's silicon strategy, and his influence has been felt deeply not just inside the company, but across the industry."
Srouji joined Apple in 2008 to lead development of the A4, the company's first custom-designed system-on-a-chip. Before Apple, he held senior positions at Intel and IBM in processor development and design.
At Apple, Srouji has overseen teams responsible for custom chips and hardware technologies including Apple silicon, batteries, cameras, storage controllers, sensors, displays, and cellular modems across the company's product line.
The hardware engineering team at Apple handles product design, system engineering, and reliability testing, working with industrial design, hardware technologies, software engineering, and operations teams.
Srouji earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Computer Science from Technion, Israel's Institute of Technology.
