April 20, 2026 5:57 AM

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB) subsidiary QNX announced that Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Leapmotor has selected QNX technology as the foundational software platform for its D19 premium electric SUV, which enters mass production this month.

The D19 features a centralized controller built on QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 and QNX Hypervisor for Safety 8.0, consolidating digital cockpit and advanced driver assistance systems into a single safety-certified platform. According to the companies, this marks the first vehicle globally to launch with this centralized design approach.

The system supports up to eight high-resolution screens in 3K and 4K configurations, 24 audio channels, and comprehensive sensor fusion for ADAS features. The architecture processes data from up to 13 camera streams alongside lidar, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to deliver assistance features including park-to-park functionality.

"With QNX at the core of the D19's central controller, we can offer customers a premium experience that combines advanced safety, immersive infotainment, and continuous innovation through seamless over-the-air updates," said Hongtao Zhou, Senior Vice President at Leapmotor.

The partnership between QNX and Leapmotor began in 2021 when QNX technology was selected for Leapmotor's C11 electric crossover. QNX software has since been implemented across Leapmotor's expanding vehicle portfolio, including B-series models launched in 2025.

QNX technology currently operates in more than 275 million vehicles worldwide and serves automotive manufacturers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Volkswagen. The software provides operating systems, hypervisors, and development tools for safety-critical automotive applications.

BlackBerry, headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, trades on the New York Stock Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker BB.
