USA Rare Earth names Chaitan Kansal as chief commercial officer
USA Rare Earth Inc. (NASDAQ: USAR) appointed Chaitan Kansal as chief commercial officer in a newly created role, the company announced. Kansal will oversee global commercial strategy, customer engagement, market development, offtake agreements, pricing, and go-to-market execution across the company's mine-to-magnet platform.
The appointment comes as USA Rare Earth recently commissioned Phase 1a commercial magnet production at its Stillwater, Oklahoma facility and made a strategic investment in Carester SAS, a French rare earth separation and processing company.
"As USA Rare Earth transitions from development to commercialization, Chaitan's appointment reflects the strategic importance we place on building world-class commercial capabilities," said Barbara Humpton, chief executive officer of USA Rare Earth.
Kansal brings over 25 years of experience in critical minerals, specialty chemicals, and advanced materials sectors. He most recently served as chief commercial officer at Ecobat, a global battery recycling and lead production company. Prior to that, he was chief marketing officer at Albemarle Corporation, where he led the Energy Storage Global Business Unit Growth Platforms and developed lithium go-to-market strategies.
Earlier in his career, Kansal held senior positions at Eastman Chemical Company for seven years, including global general manager of the Specialty Fluids & Energy division. He also served as director of strategy at Ashland Inc. and spent seven years as a management consultant at Kearney. He began his career at MicroStrategy Inc. as an engineering team lead and senior software design engineer.
Kansal holds an MBA from the University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology.
