RTX receives aircraft certification for GTF Advantage engine on A320neo

April 17, 2026 6:02 AM

The European Aviation Safety Agency certified RTX's (NYSE: RTX) Pratt & Whitney GTF Advantage engine for use on Airbus A320neo family aircraft, according to a company statement. The certification enables production engine deliveries and entry into service this year.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration previously certified the GTF Advantage engine in February 2025, with EASA validating the engine's type certification in October 2025.

The GTF Advantage engine delivers 4-8% more takeoff thrust compared to the current GTF model, enabling higher payload and longer range capabilities. The engine is fully intermixable and interchangeable with existing GTF engines and will become the production standard, with full transition expected in 2028.

Pratt & Whitney plans to offer the GTF Hot Section Plus upgrade option for existing PW1100G-JM engines later this year. The upgrade provides up to 90-95% of the GTF Advantage's durability benefits and can be incorporated during maintenance visits.

The company is investing approximately $1 billion at its turbine airfoil facility in Asheville, North Carolina, and $200 million at its Columbus, Georgia forging facility to increase production capacity.

Pratt & Whitney has delivered over 2,700 GTF-powered aircraft to more than 90 customers worldwide. The company reports over 13,000 engine orders and commitments across all platforms.
