Scripps Sports partners with PBR for women's rodeo programming

April 16, 2026 11:46 AM

Scripps Sports announced a multi-year broadcast partnership with Professional Bull Riders to bring Premier Women's Rodeo programming to its ION and Grit television networks beginning in May.

The partnership launches with the 2026 PWR Championship broadcast from Fort Worth, Texas, on May 17 at 1 p.m. ET on ION and Grit. The collaboration expands in 2027 to include an original series "PWR: Road to the Championship" on Grit and the 2027 PWR Championship across both networks. ION and Grit will broadcast a minimum of 18 hours of women's rodeo programming over 16 broadcasts in 2027.

Premier Women's Rodeo is owned and operated by PBR and represents a rebrand of the Women's Rodeo Championships, which launched the Women's Rodeo World Championship in 2020. The organization has distributed nearly $4.5 million to women athletes and produced what it claims was the highest-rated rodeo telecast in history on CBS.

"Premier Women's Rodeo embodies the dynamic, high-energy competition that today's audiences are actively seeking," said Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports.

PWR features four disciplines: Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, and Goat Tying, with equal payouts across disciplines. The competition includes Pro, Challenger, and Limited classifications for athletes ages 13 and up.

ION reaches more than 126 million U.S. households through over-the-air broadcasting, pay-TV services, and streaming platforms. The network currently broadcasts content from the WNBA, National Women's Soccer League, Professional Women's Hockey League, and other women's sports properties. Grit will incorporate sports programming for the first time in its 12-year history as part of its evolution into a Western lifestyle network.

Scripps Sports is owned by The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP).
