Scripps Sports partners with Premier Women's Rodeo for multi-year deal

April 16, 2026 10:01 AM

Scripps Sports has secured a multi-year broadcast partnership with Professional Bull Riders to bring Premier Women's Rodeo exclusively to its ION and Grit television networks starting in May, according to a company statement.

The partnership begins with ION and Grit broadcasting the 2026 PWR Championship from Fort Worth, Texas, on May 17 at 1 p.m. ET. In 2027, the collaboration expands to include an original series called "PWR: Road to the Championship" on Grit, with both networks airing a minimum of 18 hours of women's rodeo programming across 16 broadcasts.

PWR represents a new venture from PBR, building on the Women's Rodeo Championships platform established in 2020. The organization has distributed nearly $4.5 million to women athletes and produced what it describes as the highest-rated rodeo telecast in history on CBS.

"Premier Women's Rodeo embodies the dynamic, high-energy competition that today's audiences are actively seeking, and we're honored to serve as the national platform for this exceptional sport," said Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports.

The partnership adds to ION's women's sports portfolio, which includes agreements with the WNBA, NWSL, PWHL, Major League Volleyball, and other properties. ION reaches more than 126 million U.S. households through various distribution channels.

PWR features four disciplines: Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, and Goat Tying, with equal payouts across events. The competition includes Pro, Challenger, and Limited classifications for athletes ages 13 and up.

Scripps Sports is owned by The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP).
