Walmart expands weight management services with virtual care platform
Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) announced the expansion of its Better Care Services platform to include weight management support for customers using or considering GLP-1 therapies. The platform connects customers to third-party healthcare providers alongside pharmacy services and nutrition resources.
The retailer's nearly 4,600 pharmacies now provide access to GLP-1 medications, including the newly available oral option Foundayo (orforglipron), through insurance or cash-pay pricing. Same-day delivery is available in as fast as one hour in many locations, with free delivery for Walmart+ members.
The Better Care Services platform includes obesity and weight management offerings from five providers: Aaptiv, Berry Street, Curai Health, MyCare by Twin Health, and Wheel. Services range from personalized fitness programming to AI-supported coaching and telehealth visits with board-certified providers.
Curai Health will offer its Weight Loss GLP-1 AI agent at no cost to Walmart customers from April 15 through July 31, excluding Medicare and Medicaid enrollees. Starting August 1, the service will cost $29 per month. Wheel's weight management program offers initial visits starting at $99 and check-ins at $35.
"Access to medication is only one part of the equation, weight management today is often difficult to navigate, with patients managing multiple steps across care, medication and lifestyle changes," said Kevin Host, Senior Vice President of Pharmacy at Walmart U.S.
The platform also connects customers to Nutrition Hub, powered by Walmart Everyday Health Signals, for personalized food and recipe guidance. Walmart launched a redesigned GLP-1 digital destination on Walmart.com featuring related products and medically reviewed nutrition guidance.
According to the CDC, more than 40% of U.S. adults live with obesity. Beginning in July, eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries will gain access to certain GLP-1 medications through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge demonstration program.
