Roku reaches 100 million streaming households milestone
Roku Inc. (NASDAQ: ROKU) announced it has surpassed 100 million streaming households worldwide as of April, according to a company press release.
The streaming platform defines streaming households as the number of distinct user accounts streaming on its platform within a 30-day period. The milestone encompasses users of Roku streaming players, first-party Roku-made TVs, and Roku TV models manufactured by hardware partners.
"Surpassing 100 million streaming households is a defining moment, not just for Roku, but for the future of television," said Anthony Wood, founder and CEO of Roku.
The company reported that its streaming devices are used by more than half of all U.S. broadband households. Roku OS-powered TVs and streaming devices are available in more than 15 countries, including Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
According to Comscore data cited by Roku, the platform drives more than three times the engagement of the next leading TV operating system in the U.S. The company also referenced Nielsen's The Gauge report, which ranks The Roku Channel as the second-largest free, ad-supported streaming app on the Roku platform and fifth overall among streaming apps in the U.S.
Roku recently launched Howdy, a subscription service priced at $3 per month, in the U.S. and Mexico. The service offers ad-free content as part of the company's value-focused offerings.
The platform provides access to more than 500 free live linear channels in the U.S., thousands of free on-demand titles, and major premium streaming services through a single interface.
