Avid partners with Google Cloud to integrate AI into video editing tools
Avid announced a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud to embed artificial intelligence capabilities into its media and entertainment software. The collaboration integrates Google's Gemini models and Vertex AI into Avid's video editing platforms.
The partnership focuses on two main products: Media Composer, Avid's professional video editing system, and Avid Content Core, a cloud-based platform for managing media assets. The integration allows users to search and analyze video content using natural language queries and automates tasks such as metadata logging and visual style matching.
Avid Content Core is now commercially available and uses Google Cloud's BigQuery, Vision Warehouse, and Vertex AI Search technologies. The platform serves as a data management system for global media files, enabling remote access and collaboration for creative teams.
Media Composer now includes a multimodal extension powered by Gemini that can generate metadata, perform automated logging, and create supplementary video content. The system can analyze video files to understand context, dialogue, and visual elements.
"Customers are asking for intelligent tools that plug into existing workflows and scale with their creativity," said Wellford Dillard, Avid's chief executive officer. The integration aims to reduce manual tasks in video production while maintaining compatibility with existing industry workflows.
Google Cloud's Anil Jain noted that the technology moves beyond automation by enabling editors to collaborate with AI agents for content creation and timeline management.
The companies plan to demonstrate the new capabilities at the NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 19-22, 2026. Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) shares closed at their previous level following the announcement.
