EU Commission proposes Google share search data with rivals

April 16, 2026 6:15 AM

Investing.com -- The European Commission issued preliminary findings on Thursday regarding Google's compliance measures for the EU's Digital Markets Act, proposing that the tech giant allow third-party search engines to access its search data, including information from artificial intelligence chatbots with search functionalities.

The commission stated that interested parties have until May 1 to submit their views on the proposed measures. A final decision is expected by July 27, which will be binding for Google.

Google was charged in March 2025 with breaching the Digital Markets Act. The company submitted its own proposals to address concerns from rivals and EU regulators, but competitors argued the measures were insufficient.

The proposed measures aim to allow third-party online search engines to optimize their search services and contest Google Search's market position.
