Honda begins sales of all-new Insight EV in Japan
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. began sales of the all-new Honda Insight electric vehicle in Japan on April 17, 2026, according to a company statement.
The fourth-generation Insight represents Honda's transition from the model's hybrid origins to a fully electric crossover SUV. The vehicle offers a driving range of 535 kilometers on a single charge under WLTC testing conditions and can fast-charge to 80% capacity in approximately 40 minutes using chargers with output exceeding 50kW.
Honda will sell the Insight in limited quantities of 3,000 units at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 5.5 million yen, including Japan's 10% consumption tax. The company offers five exterior color options, with premium colors carrying additional charges of 44,000 to 66,000 yen.
The electric SUV includes Honda's SENSING safety suite with 15 driver assistance functions and features a 12-speaker BOSE audio system designed for the model. Interior amenities include an aroma diffuser with six fragrance options, ambient lighting, and an intelligent heating system that coordinates seat, steering wheel and cabin heating.
The vehicle can output up to 1,500 watts of AC power through an optional Honda Power Supply Connector for external use. Four driving modes are available: Normal, Sport, Econ and Snow, with the Sport mode including an Active Sound Control system.
Honda introduced the original Insight in 1999 as its first mass-production hybrid vehicle. A limited Honda ON edition with white interior will be available exclusively through the company's online sales platform for select exterior colors.
