Knightscope partners with Carnegie Mellon for robotics collaboration
Knightscope Inc. (NASDAQ: KSCP) announced it has entered into a letter agreement with Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science for a five-year collaboration focused on educational projects in robotics and security.
Under the agreement, Knightscope will fund five educational course projects at Carnegie Mellon University over the five-year period. The collaboration will focus on robotics applications for national security, public safety, and physical security. Knightscope will also provide access to its National Security Robotics Lab at its Silicon Valley headquarters to Carnegie Mellon University.
Work performed under the collaboration will be directed by Professor John Dolan or other designees from the Dean of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science. Five graduate students from Carnegie Mellon's Master of Science in Robotic Systems Development program are currently working with Knightscope on an artificial intelligence feature for the company's upcoming K7 Autonomous Security Robot.
"Carnegie Mellon University has helped define modern robotics, and we are honored to work with the School of Computer Science on projects that can help strengthen America's leadership in autonomy, public safety and security," said William Santana Li, Chairman and CEO of Knightscope.
John Dolan, MRSD Program Director at Carnegie Mellon University, stated that the collaboration will provide students opportunities to work with autonomous systems in security and public-safety environments while contributing to robotics capabilities development.
The MRSD program is designed for recent graduates or professionals entering the robotics and automation field in the commercial sector, focusing on technical and business skills needed for industry success.
