Tenable launches instant OT discovery for cyber-physical systems

April 15, 2026 9:00 AM

Tenable Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: TENB) announced a new operational technology asset discovery engine that enables security teams to identify risks in cyber-physical systems including OT, IoT and shadow IT devices.

The VM-Native OT Discovery capability integrates directly into Tenable's existing vulnerability management solutions without requiring additional hardware, agents or specialized software deployments. The feature is available to Tenable One, Tenable Vulnerability Management and Tenable Security Center customers.

During early access testing, customers across hospitality, financial services, education, food and beverage, and government sectors discovered between 100 and 1000+ previously unknown OT and IoT assets, with some containing critical vulnerabilities, according to the company's statement.

The discovery engine identifies device attributes including vendor, model, firmware, backplane details and operational status across assets ranging from factory equipment to HVAC systems, office printers and badge readers.

"Cyber-physical risk can't remain a blind spot in exposure management," said Eric Doerr, Chief Product Officer at Tenable. "We're giving organizations an immediate, low-friction way to bring OT into scope, so they can gain visibility, meet compliance requirements and start reducing risk from day one, without adding new infrastructure."

The company also offers Tenable OT Security, a comprehensive solution for continuous monitoring and threat detection in cyber-physical systems. Gartner recently named Tenable a Challenger in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for CPS Protection Platforms.

According to industry research cited by Tenable, more than half of chief information security officers now oversee OT security, and 45% of modern OT compromises originate in IT environments.
