Holland America Line announces $500 million fleet renovation program

April 15, 2026 7:41 AM

Holland America Line announced a multiyear fleet renovation program called "Holland America Evolution" that will update six ships with a total investment of more than $500 million, according to a company press release.

The program will renovate four Vista Class ships—Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam—and two Signature Class ships, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam. The cruise line, a division of Carnival Corporation (NYSE: CCL), describes this as the largest fleet update in its 153-year history.

Oosterdam will be the first ship to complete renovations, debuting in fall 2027. The ship will add 76 new staterooms and feature new accommodation categories including 30 Solo Verandah staterooms designed for solo travelers, two Bridgeview Suites with 900 square feet and panoramic ocean views, and a reimagined Pinnacle Suite spanning 1,550 square feet.

The renovations will also introduce the Grand Dutch Café to ships beyond the Pinnacle Class fleet. Previously available only on the cruise line's newest ships, this venue will expand to additional vessels as part of the update program.

"Our guests have been very clear about what they love about our ships and what they want to see more of, and Holland America Evolution is our answer to that," said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line.

The company is partnering with Fincantieri, the shipbuilder that constructed all 11 vessels in Holland America's fleet, to complete the renovations. The cruise line stated that sustainability considerations are incorporated into the updates, including waste reduction, material reuse, and energy efficiency improvements.

Holland America Line operates 11 ships and visits nearly 400 ports in 114 countries. Additional details about the renovation timeline for the remaining five ships will be announced in coming months.
