IBM launches cybersecurity tools to counter AI-powered attacks

April 15, 2026 6:01 AM

IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced new cybersecurity measures designed to help organizations defend against cyber threats that use advanced AI models for attacks, according to a company press release.

The technology company introduced two main offerings: a cybersecurity assessment service through IBM Consulting and IBM Autonomous Security, a service powered by AI agents.

The cybersecurity assessment evaluates enterprise readiness for AI-enabled threats by identifying security gaps, policy weaknesses, and potential exploit paths. IBM Consulting delivers the assessment with technology partners to provide support across customer environments.

IBM Autonomous Security uses coordinated AI agents to analyze software exposures and runtime environments. The service operates across an organization's security infrastructure to understand exploit paths, enforce security policies, detect anomalies, and contain threats with reduced human intervention.

The service connects with AI systems across information technology, operational technology, and business processes. It aims to transform detection to remediation processes and improve compliance outcomes.

"Frontier models are creating a new category of enterprise threat that is fast moving, systemic and increasingly autonomous," said Mark Hughes, Global Managing Partner of Cybersecurity Services at IBM Consulting. "Meeting that threat requires a systemic defense. AI powered offense demands AI powered defense."

The announcement comes as IBM positions these tools as responses to what it describes as attackers using advanced AI models to accelerate attack phases and reduce the time, cost, and expertise required for sophisticated attacks.
