Walmart launches Upstream Facility Services for businesses nationwide

April 14, 2026 2:29 PM

Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) announced the launch of Upstream Facility Services, a new business unit that extends the company's maintenance operations to serve external commercial clients across the United States.

The service is built on the systems that support thousands of Walmart and Sam's Club locations and targets businesses operating multiple locations where maintenance affects revenue. Upstream focuses on HVAC, refrigeration, general maintenance, electrical and plumbing services.

The maintenance model combines urgent repairs, preventive maintenance, and predictive service. Technicians are positioned near customer locations to provide quick response times while helping reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

"We've spent years building one of the largest in-house facility service operations in the country," said R.J. Zanes, Vice President of Walmart Facility Services. "Upstream takes that capability beyond our walls, combining national scale, skilled technicians, and real-time visibility to help businesses run with fewer disruptions."

The service includes nationwide technician coverage, training provided through a dedicated center, and technology platforms that offer real-time visibility into service performance across locations. Clients can track job status and performance trends through digital tools that support scheduling, routing, and performance tracking.

Upstream targets commercial operators managing complex facility operations across multiple sites. The service provides end-to-end maintenance coverage with consistent execution across different locations and real-time performance monitoring.

The announcement represents Walmart's expansion of its internal maintenance capabilities into a commercial service offering for external businesses, according to the company's press release.
